A Time Line Of Sharon’s Illness

February 2002: Sharon found a lump in her breast.

March 2002: Sharon went to Dr Greenhall’s Breast Clinic at the JR Hospital in Oxford.  At first they thought it was a lymph gland, but a biopsy showed it to be breast cancer.

April 16th 2002: First operation to remove lump at the Jane Ashley Unit at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.  Lump removed plus all lymph nodes under her arm on that side removed.

April 2002: Two further lumps found in her breast.

May 28th 2002: Second operation to remove lumps, again at the Jane Ashley Unit.

June 2002: Sharon knew she would need radiotherapy and chemotherapy. She was also to start taking tamoxifen, an anti-cancer drug.

July 11th: Chemotherapy. Then on Aug.7th, 29th.

August 2002: Sharon was losing her hair so she asked M to shave her head. She started wearing scarves to cover her head. Chemo also made her sick, so she sometimes needed anti-sickness injections.

August 15th: Planning for radiotherapy.

August 30th: Sharon had a fund raising party for the Jane Ashley Unit. She raised over £500!

October 4th 2002: Sharon and M went to Jenny and Tony’s.

October 2002: Chemotherapy continued on Oct. 11th, 31st

October 18th: Sharon presented a cheque to the Jane Ashley Unit.

End of November 2002: Radiotherapy due to start. Postponed till beginning of December. Then on Dec. 6th, 9th – 13th, Dec. 16th – 20th, Dec 30th.

December 8th 2002: Sharon, Sue and I went to Clothes Show. Awful journey on a crowded Virgin train on the way back. Sharon was not feeling well.

January 2003: Radiotherapy continued on 2nd, 3rd, 6th – 10th, 13th – 17th, 20th, 23rd.

February 13th: Sharon and M went on holiday to Herne Bay.

February 27th 2003: Sharon and Sue and friends went to the Apollo Theatre: Sound of Music night.  I had to leave early with a bad head and Sharon walked me back to my car.

March 14th2003: Sharon and M had a holiday to Butlins at Bognor.

April 10th2003: Check up at Churchill Hospital.

April 23rd 2003: Sharon’s work moved to Tilehurst.

May 1st: Sharon had an accident in her car on the way home from work. She suffered some whiplash effects and started suffering from aches and pains.

June 26th 2003: Check up at Churchill Hospital. Given the “All clear”!!

August 1st – 4th: Sharon and M went to Bere Ferrers to stay with Jenny and Tony.

August 15th 2003: Sharon’s party. Celebrating the good news. Sharon’s hair was starting to grow back.

September 2003: Sharon went to the doctor with back trouble.

September 12th 2003: Bone scan.

September 17th 2003: Acupuncture.

September 18th 2003: Doctor’s appointment at the Churchill. Sharon was given bad news: the cancer had spread to her bones. Luckily Sue had come with her to the hospital. It was a terrible shock so soon after the “all clear” in the summer.

September 29th, 30th, October 1st: Radiotherapy.

October 3rd 2003: Sharon and M went on holiday to Minehead, staying with Dave and Esther and their family.

November 24th: Radiotherapy.

November 28th: Chemotherapy.

December 3rd: Sharon was in a lot of pain, so she went to Sobell House Hospice in Oxford for pain relief.  She stayed there until 12th December. They looked after her so well! They put her on a new regime of drugs to deal with the pain.

December 19th: Chemotherapy.

December 23rd– 28th: Sharon and M went to Dave and Esther’s for Christmas.

January 8th and 29th 2004: Chemotherapy.

January 16th 2004: CT scan.

February 3rd 2004: Sharon and M went on holiday.

March, April, May, June 2004: Friday trips out with Mum.

May 10th 2004: Sharon and M went to Weymouth for the week.

May 18th: Sharon had to go into hospital, first in the John Waryn ward at the Churchill, then on to the Blenheim ward.

May 2004: Transferred to JR Hospital, Level 6.  Long Bank holiday weekend in JR. Uncle Leslie came to visit from Preston.

June 8th 2004: Sharon was sent home from hospital. Hospital bed etc. set up for her in the sitting room at home. A Macmillan nurse started coming in to visit her. A District nurse also began visiting. Nurses came in to help her get dressed and to have breakfast in the mornings.

June 12th to 15th 2004: Sue and Chris came to visit from Somerset.

June 25th 2004: Sharon died.
